More Information about the Paris Metro

The Paris Metro, operated by the RATP, consists of sixteen metro lines covering over 227km of automated metro trains that travel through a network of 308 metro stations. Inaugurated in 1900, the Paris metro is now essential for exploring the city.

There are several intersections between the sixteen metro lines, as well as connections to other public transportation such as tram or bus services.

The Paris metro is denser than both the Berlin and London metros. You can check out the Berlin metro map or the London metro map to see the differences.

The operating hours of the Paris metro are from approximately 5:30 AM to 1:15 AM on weekdays. On Fridays and Saturdays, the service runs until 2:15 AM.

Map of Paris Metro Line 1

Line 1 connects La Défense in the west to Château de Vincennes in the east, following the historical axis of Paris. It serves six municipalities with 25 stations and covers over 16 kilometers.

Line 2 connects Porte Dauphine in the west to Nation in the east. It mainly serves the 16th and 17th arrondissements of Paris. It has over 12 km of tracks and stops at 25 metro stations.

Metro Line 3

Line 3 connects Pont de Levallois station to Bagnolet station. It serves the 17th arrondissement of Paris up to Bagnolet. Stretching over 12 km of tracks, it stops at the following 25 metro stations.

Metro Line 4

Line 4 connects the northern station Porte de Clignancourt to the southern terminus Bagneux. It travels through 29 stations over a distance of 14 kilometers, with a total travel time of 36 minutes. Line 4 is connected to all other stations of the Parisian metro.

Metro Line 5

Line 5 connects the eastern part of the city, from Place d'Italie station to Bobigny. It travels through 22 stations over a distance of 14 kilometers. If you need to reach a train station, Line 5 is ideal as it serves Gare d'Austerlitz, Gare de l'Est, and Gare du Nord.

Metro Line 6

Line 6 connects Charles de Gaulle station in the west to Nation in the east. It passes through 28 stations over a distance of 14 kilometers. The distinctive feature of Line 6 is that it is almost equally elevated and underground. Line 6 also allows you to reach the Eiffel Tower at Bir-Hakeim station.

Metro Line 7

Line 7 connects La Courneuve station in the northeast to Mairie d'Ivry in the southeast. It covers 38 stations over a distance of more than 22 kilometers. Similar to Line 4, Line 7 is connected to all other metro lines.

Metro Line 8

Line 8 connects stations from the southwest to the southeast. It covers 38 stations over a distance of more than 23 kilometers. Line 8 has the particularity of crossing the Seine River.

Metro Line 9

Line 9 connects stations from the southwest to the southeast. It covers 38 stations over a distance of more than 23 kilometers. Line 9 has the particularity of crossing the Seine River.
